Track mentions

Three jobs for mention trackers, each with the call that does it

Reads need reddit:signals:read; starting or changing a tracker needs reddit:signals:write, which only owners and admins can grant. Each call costs $0.001 per call. See Reddit mentions.

Start tracking a term in a subreddit

curl -s -X PUT https://app.makesmores.com/api/v1/mentions \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SMORE_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"name": "coffee-grinders",
"subreddit": "coffee",
"terms": [{ "term": "burr grinder", "aliases": ["burr grinders"] }],
"history_from": "2026-01-01"
}' | jq '{name, stage, coverage}'

stage and coverage show how far S'more has read. The newest 30 days come first, then older history.

Chart a term month by month

Ask for the series only, with the headline measures. Each array lines up with start; a null is a period not read yet.

curl -s "https://app.makesmores.com/api/v1/mentions?tracker=coffee-grinders&bucket=month&from=2026-01-01&include=series&series_fields=mentions,authors_pct" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SMORE_API_KEY" \
| jq '.series | {start, coverage, mentions, authors_pct, provisional_from}'

Ask whether use is rising or falling

Compare this month with last month and this quarter with last quarter, and read the trend. A side marked low_volume has fewer than 20 mentions, so treat its change as noise.

curl -s "https://app.makesmores.com/api/v1/mentions?tracker=coffee-grinders&include=comparisons,trend&compare=month,quarter" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SMORE_API_KEY" \
| jq '{trend, comparisons: [.comparisons[] | {preset, change, significance, low: [.current.low_volume, .previous.low_volume]}]}'

List every tracker and its coverage with a plain GET:

curl -s https://app.makesmores.com/api/v1/mentions \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SMORE_API_KEY" | jq '{limits, trackers: [.trackers[] | {name, subreddit, stage}]}'

Stop a tracker you no longer need, so it frees one of your 10 slots:

curl -s -X DELETE "https://app.makesmores.com/api/v1/mentions?tracker=coffee-grinders" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SMORE_API_KEY"
