Quickstart
Create a key, list the models, make a first call and see it in Usage
You need a S'more account, curl and, for the later steps, jq. Sign in at app.makesmores.com with your email; S'more sends a code and there is no password.
1. Create a key
Open the console. The first time you visit, the Quick start card on Overview holds a test key with the Models and data scopes, a cap of 1,000 credits a month and a 90-day life. Copy it before you leave the page, because S'more shows a full key only once.
To make your own, go to API keys, select Create key, pick the Models and data preset and give the key a name such as laptop. Keys start with smr_.
Keep the key in an environment variable, never in code or a shared chat:
export SMORE_API_KEY='smr_...'
2. List the models
GET /api/v1/models needs no key. It returns every model with its price, scope, limits and status.
curl -s https://app.makesmores.com/api/v1/models | jq -r '.data[].id'
The same list, with prices, is on All models and prices.
3. Make a first call
Score two titles for a post in r/running. The Reddit Viral Score answers at once with each title's chance of reaching the subreddit's top 10% of the month.
curl -s https://app.makesmores.com/api/v1/viral-score \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SMORE_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"network": "reddit",
"subreddit": "running",
"titles": [
"First half marathon: easy miles got me under 2 hours",
"I ran 80% of my training slow and beat my goal by 8 minutes"
]
}'
Each entry in variants has the title, p_top10 (0 to 1), lift (that chance as a multiple of the subreddit's base rate) and its rank. helps and hurts say why. This call costs $0.01 per title, so two titles cost 20 credits ($0.02 at list).
The same call in Python:
import os
import requests
r = requests.post(
"https://app.makesmores.com/api/v1/viral-score",
headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['SMORE_API_KEY']}"},
json={
"network": "reddit",
"subreddit": "running",
"titles": ["First half marathon: easy miles got me under 2 hours"],
},
)
r.raise_for_status()
for v in r.json()["variants"]:
print(v["rank"], round(v["p_top10"], 3), v["title"])
4. Check your credits
curl -s https://app.makesmores.com/api/v1/credits \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SMORE_API_KEY"
available is what you can spend now: the free allowance first, then purchased credits. key shows what this key spent this month and its cap. Charged responses also carry X-Credits-Charged and X-Credits-Balance headers. If credits_enforced is false, S'more has not started charging yet: the call is recorded in Usage and nothing is deducted.
5. See it in Usage
Open Usage in the console. The call shows within a minute, grouped by model, key or day, with tokens, items and credits.
Next steps
- Write a Reddit post with the Reddit writers, or an email with prose-1.
- Give an agent the same products as tools through MCP.
- Read Errors before you ship, so your code handles
credits_requiredand rate limits.
